The Liberty church of Christ assembles to worship God according to the New Testament pattern. Each Lord’s Day in accordance with the teachings and the examples of the church in the New Testament, the Liberty church of Christ gathers together to worship God in spirit and in Truth (John 4:24). Every worship assembly is conducted decently and orderly after the New Testament pattern set forth (1 Corinthians 14:40).
Each Lord’s day the Liberty church of Christ observes and practices five avenues of worship that are commanded by the New Testament.
We are commanded to:
Preach, and Teach God’s Word. God’s Word is to be preached each Lord’s Day, on Sunday which is the first day of the week. “And upon the first day of the week, when the disciples came together to break bread, Paul preached unto them, ready to depart on the morrow; and continued his speech until midnight” (Acts 20:7). “Till I come, give attendance to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine” (1 Timothy 4:13). Paul wrote, “How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher? And how shall they preach, except they be sent? As it is written, How beautiful the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things” (Romans 10:14-15).
Pray. We are to pray in our worship each Lord’s Day, on Sunday which is the first day of the week. “And they continued steadfastly in the apostle’s doctrine and fellowship and in breaking of bread and in prayers” (Acts 2:42).
Sing. We are commanded to sing collectively together each Lord’s Day, on Sunday which is the first day of the week. This singing is to be acappella, or without the use of mechanical instruments. “Speaking to yourselves in psalms, hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart unto the Lord” (Ephesians 5:19). “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts unto the Lord” (Colossians 3:16).
Give as we have prospered. We are commanded to give on each Lord’s Day, on Sunday which is the first day of the week. “Now concerning the collection for the saints, as I have given order to the churches of Galatia, even so do ye. Upon the first day of the week let every one of you lay by him in store, as God hath prospered him, that there be no gatherings when I come” (1 Corinthians 16:1-2). We are to give cheerfully and not grudgingly (2 Corinthians 9:6-7).
Partake of the Lord’s Supper. We are commanded to partake of the Lord’s Supper each Lord’s Day, on Sunday which is the first day of the week. The early church observed the Lord’s Supper each Lord’s Day. “And upon the first day of the week, when the disciples came together to break bread, Paul preached unto them, ready to depart on the morrow; and continued his speech until midnight” (Acts 20:7). Jesus commanded, “And as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and blessed it, and brake it, and gave it to the disciples, and said, take eat: this is my body. And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, Drink ye all of it; For this is my blood of the New Testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins. But I say unto you, I will not drink henceforth of this fruit of the vine, until that day when I drink it anew with you in my Father’s kingdom” (Matthew 26:26-29). Paul further instructed how we are to partake of the Lord’s Supper (1 Corinthians 11:23-29).
The Liberty church of Christ also has other opportunities to increase in knowledge and to be strengthened. Bible classes are available for all age groups on Sunday mornings before our worship and on Wednesday nights. During these additional times, we are edified by each other’s presence, as we study the Bible, pray and sing according to the New Testament pattern. We do not partake of the Lord’s Supper or give according to our means on any other day or time other than in the Sunday worship assemblies since these two acts of worship are exclusively commanded to be practiced only on the Lord’s Day during the worship assemblies.
There is also a monthly Ladies Bible Class that meets to study the Bible together.
