THE CHURCH OF CHRIST was established in Jerusalem on the Day of Pentecost in AD 33. Jesus promised to build His church (Matthew 16:18-19), which came to be in reality on the Day of Pentecost in AD 33. The church was established after Jesus shed His blood to purchase her (Acts 20:28). To purchase and establish the church, her builder and owner, Jesus Christ, had to pay the ultimate price. This price was His blood, shed upon the cross of Calvary (Acts 20:28; 1 Peter 1:18-19).The early members of the church were called only Christians (Acts 11:26).
Established in Jerusalem on the Day of Pentecost with about three thousand souls converted on the same day, the church grew, as prophesied in Daniel 2:44. Multitudes were added to the church (Acts 5:14; 6:1). The church of Christ started in Jerusalem (Acts 2); and spread to Samaria (Acts 8:5-12); Caesarea (Acts 10); Antioch of Syria (Acts 11:19-21); Paphos and Antioch of Pisidia (Acts 13:6-49); Iconium and Lystra (Acts 14:1-23); Philippi (Acts 16:12-40); Thessalonica, Berea, Athens (Acts 17: 1-34); Corinth (Acts 18:1-11); and to other parts of the world.
The church as one body (Ephesians 4:4) is organized into local congregations of the churches of Christ in different geographical locations, under the supreme authority of Jesus Christ who is the only Head (Ephesians 1:22-23; Colossians 1:18). We invite you to visit with us at the Liberty church of Christ, a local congregation of the body of Christ. We invite you to learn more about the church of Christ that you can read about in the New Testament.
“Salute one another with an holy kiss. The churches of Christ salute you” (Romans 16:16).
